Career Story

Born in Tasmania and raised between the Apple Isle and Naples beneath Mount Vesuvius, Massimo Mele’s culinary journey began in the kitchens of his family. Surrounded by the traditions of Italian cooking, helping his Nonna prepare passata and learning the rhythms of hospitality — his passion for food was formed early.

Returning to Tasmania as a child, Massimo grew up working in family restaurants before committing to a professional career in his late teens. Since then, he has become one of Australia’s most respected Italian chefs, known for celebrating Tasmanian produce while staying true to his Italian heritage.

Media & Storytelling

Massimo regularly appears across television, media and digital platforms, sharing stories of food, culture and place.

His work blends Italian tradition with Tasmania’s exceptional produce, making him a powerful voice for brands wanting authenticity and culinary credibility.

Italian soul, Tasmanian produce, and a chef who cooks with heart.
